Star Wars T-Shirt

I have a couple Star Wars T-Shirts in my wardrobe. This entry is based on the shirt shown in the picture below. Background on the picture is that it was taken at GameWorks in Newport at my good friend Jim's bachelor party. Jim and I grew up watching Star Wars together daily. Another side note is that I got both Superman's in one turn from one of those claw machines. i was stoked.



Today I decided to wear this shirt to church. I have always received compliments every time I have worn this shirt, but today, I got way more than usual. So I walked into church and received 2 compliments on my shirt on the way to my seat. I thought it was normal, then Joe Boyd, who probably does not read this blog, started the message and made several references to Star Wars and the rebellion showing a metaphor of good from an unlikely source rising to fight evil.

After the message was over and everyone released, everyone of course saw my shirt and told me they loved it and how I was appropriately dressed for the message. I thought the compliment party was done there, but later that night I got 2 more while at Kroger. It was definitely an eventful day. I wonder if it would have been the same if I had worn my other Star Wars shirt which has a picture of Darth Vader and reads "Vader was framed"?

I recently had a discussion with my wife about live entertainment. I used to go to see a lot bands at various venues. I was never really into going to see movies in a theater, unless it was LOTR or Star Wars or the latest movie containing comic book heroes. I prefer live entertainment. The problem with live entertainment for me is that it starts so late in the evening and often ends the next morning. At most places, the opening band goes on at 10:30 or 11:00PM and the headlining act goes on at 12:30 or 1:00AM. What is up with that, especially on weeknights? Now that I'm an old married man with a kid, I don't do that so much anymore. In fact, I can barely stay up past 10PM on weekends. Why can't live entertainment be scheduled to start in primetime like TV shows. I'd much rather go watch a live performance than a CSI re-run or the new episode of Ugly Betty.

In our conversation, we were dreaming of live shows starting at 8 or 9PM and being done by 10:30PM on weeknights and weekends. The very next day I received an e-vite for a show on a Friday night that starts at 8PM and includes dinner. It was as if our dreams came true in an instant. So tomorrow night my wife and I will be going on a date to eat dinner and see a live improv show from the Q City Players.

Bottom Line - Dreams really do come true.

Please note that this is not a movie recommendation. I watched this movie over the weekend, but I am not ready to recommend the movie until I see it again and decide, but I am however going to recommend the soundtrack. The movie is a weird plot with an irish guy and a chezch girl and contains some language that is unnecessary, but the music parts of the movie are great. This is an example of one of the great songs from the movie.




The rest of the soundtrack is just as great if you are looking for some passionate independent music.

Bottom Line - A good movie starts with a good soundtrack

August Rush

If you like music, or if you just want an inspirational lift, then watch this movie. Don't read anything about the movie, just borrow it, rent it, get it from the library, or just buy it and put it in and watch it by yourself, or with friends and family.

the Man who knew too little

I have always hailed the movie "What about Bob?" as one of my top 5 movies of all time. Although it is not in my top 10, another Bill Murray movie "The man who knew too little" is a classic. My brother owns the movie on VHS, and I recently borrowed it from him and watched it. I couldn't stop laughing. From beginning to end Bill Murray is hilarious. The movie is a spin off of the Alfred Hitchcock movie "The man who knew too much" where a man unwantingly receives information, and gets propelled into a conflict/mystery plot. In "The man who knew too little" Bill Murray accidentally stumbles into a murder plot under the impression that the events are all set up for a reality tv show he is guest staring in. Knowing little about what is really happening, Bill Murray's character plays along with real events as though he was acting. It is a must see.




Bottom Line - Laughing and creative thinking burns calories. You should try it.

HSM3

Friday night on Jessie's b-day we went to see High School Musical 3 with Kris, Lori, Cassie, and Olivia. Zak was at Fall Weekend with Student Union, and my dad didn't want to go, so I was the only guy. When we got to the theater there was a crowd awaiting to rush the theater to get seats for the 9:30PM showing of the movie. 90% of the crowd were girls ages 8-13. I was definitely the fish out of the water.

The movie hadn't started yet, when an embarrassed father forced to go with his wife and his daughter leaned over and said, "Excuse me sir, I don't want to hear you singing the songs too loud" and laughed. He assumed that I was like him and forced to be there with the women of my family. Little did he know, I have been anticipating this movie for months now, and yes I would be singing the songs along with the movie.

The movie was great, the songs were great, the dancing was great. I loved it, and can't wait to see it again. The awkward parts were when Zac Effron took his shirt off, and all the girls gasped loudly. The gasping happened several times.

I am not ashamed that I love the High School Musical movies. I really like musicals, and I'm glad that my family instilled them in me growing up. Most of my favorite movies are musicals, for example "Sound of Music" "White Christmas" "West Side Story". Call me a dork, but the music is positive, the dancing is fun, and the movies make me happy and they bring people together. You don't have to worry about f-bombs, killings, or sex scenes, instead you find yourself tapping your feet, and humming the songs the next day.

Bottom Line - Musicals bring families and people together.

The Real Big Ben

Tonight I watched an episode of Bonanza. I used to watch it all the time as a kid. Some time ago I bought one of those DVDs from the dollar store with 3 episodes of Bonanza on it, and now I finally got around to watching one. Ben Cartwright is a great man. He thrives on integrity, justice, and patience. He raises his sons to be like him, even though Little Joe is a hot head, and Hoss is always messing up. Adam is the most like his father having patience and wisdom. Anyways, Ben Cartwright is a man that lives honorably by doing things the right way with no exceptions. He also insists on helping the people in his town who are being picked on by bad guys or people who are not so well off. I can't say enough good things about Ben Cartwright, he is a model citizen that we all could learn from. I even bet that during the time we did not see him on screen he was praying and reading his Bible. Yep, I know he did.

Bottom Line - Ben Cartwright is the bottom line.
